I thought that circumcision had no significant medical advantages, but appearently I was wrong. It cuts the rate of HIV infection by half! Im my opinion, that is a pretty significant advantage.

Medicinal benefits
Circumcision also reduces the amount of bacteria on your willy. Bacteria can proliferate in the folds, so removing the foreskin helps to reduce that.

Yeah, but infants die from circumcision which is not a medically necessary procedure. Some have their penises damaged or cut off, as well.

And are you telling me that little boys can't be taught to clean under their foreskins?

I'd bet it would be WAY easier then getting them to floss. :)

Being that there are much better ways to avoid getting HIV than not having foreskin, this really is not the greatest reason to get circumcised.

The only interesting benefits of circumcision are a very slight lower risk of a UTI, and a slight lower risk of having PE problems. There is also a side benefit if you like to sleep around for women because a circumcised man is less likely to contract and transmit HPV but again this is better mitigated by things other than circumcision.

In order to get these benefits you have to go through an unnecessary surgery where complications can result in sexual disfunction or an even higher risk of UTIs. You loose sensation, create scar tissue, and loose most of your ability to self lubricate.

If I had had a choice when I was young I would have opted out of circumcision. Luckily for my son, his parents do their homework before doing things like casually submitting their 1 day old baby to unnecessary surgery.

As an anecdote, our pediatrician said she sees more kids with UTIs that are circumcised than not. This is probably due to the fact that parents who don't get their kids circumcised do it as a concious decision against the societal pressures and actual take the time to teach their kids how to clean themselves properly. This is besides the fact that you don't have to do ANYTHING different to take care of an uncircumcised penis until after the foreskin becomes retractable when they are much older. This is contrary to the myth that some parents to to justify circumcision by saying that it will be hard to teach their toddlers to clean themselves "down there". Not only is that just plain stupid considering little kids curiosity with themselves, it is simply an incorrect fact given the biology of the human male.

Re: Medicinal benefits
Actually, IIRC from my research on this, if you leave it alone the glans will take care of themselves in a similar way to how the vagina keeps itself clean. The reason uncut guys need to clean under there so much is a side effect of cleaning under there to begin with.

You have to ask yourself, why would God have put that organ there if all he wanted you to do is cut it off. It has a purpose and most of the stuff about better hygine is total crap.

Yes, its true that its not a necessary procedure, especially when done poorly. My son didn't have the circumcision. They took too much skin that wasn't supposed to be taken. I don't know if it will cause him pain when he is older during an erection.

And are you telling me that little boys can't be taught to clean under their foreskins?

Well, it takes a few years to potty train them. If they can't wipe their own ass, I doubt they'll have the dexterity to clean it. But later in life, sure.

OK, here's my 2 bits for what it's worth. The foreskin was ieal for the perfect man, but because of the fall and sinful nature of man resulting from that, the proceedure renders the organ a bit less adapted to arouse the sexual urge. In short it makes one less, shall we say, horny :p

Are we going to believe everything that scientists say?

IMHO, the doctors (scientists) who did this has nothing better to do. According to my ancient knowledge, HIV (that type caused by sexual contact) is acquired when that bug enters our body, through exchange of fluids, passing through that small opening of our body.
Risk is high when one is in the habit of FORNICATING.

So, were those circumsised monogamous and the uncircumcised ones Lotharios?

There's only one "type" of HIV and it can be contacted through sexual contact as well as through non-sexual ways, including to an infant during birth, blood transfusions, dirty needles, etc.

By "that small opening" do you mean through the urethra?

Actually, it is through minute breaks in the skin barrier like abrasions or tiny cuts that HIV enters the bloodstream.

Not if one FORNICATES with HIV negative people.

Then I should be fine, because I am not in the HABIT of fornicating.

Everytime I fornicate, it is fresh and new.

Re: Medicinal benefits
SO you think men should be circumcised so that they have a weaker sex drive? I personally think that is a horrible reason. Certainly that is worse than being circumcised to avoid HIV.

Re: Medicinal benefits
My statement pertained to one possible reason God prescribed it for the preservation of his chosen nation to become the eventual messianic kingdom of God on earth. Less permiscuity = less disease = preservation of a people/culture.

ABE: For the most part what is good for sinful Israel is good for all of sinful mankind.
